Patrick Mahomes suffers major disappointment amid ambitious plan to reclaim NFL throne.
Patrick Mahomes has had a rough start to 2025 from a sporting perspective. After Super Bowl defeat with the Kansas City Chiefs, he now suffers his latest heartbreak as the Texas Tech Red Raiders basketball side are eliminated from the NCAA season.
The 29-year-old quarterback is an alumni of the college and hasn’t forgot his roots, despite now being deep into his NFL career where he is a three-time champion and three-time MVP
He can often be spotted cheering them on from either the stands or his home, and he’s even invested into Texas Tech to give them a crucial cash injection in their quest to establish themselves as a leading sports college.
And the Red Raiders immediately responded to the backing by finishing second in the Big 12 Conference in men’s basketball, before reaching the Elite Eight stage of March Madness with a 28-9 record.
However, just two wins away from a first national championship in college history, their dreams came to a heart-breaking end against the Florida Gators as they slipped to an 84-79 loss.
Both quarters proved to be intense and closely contested affairs as the Gators led the first by three points, before going on to win the second by an even close margin of 44-42 to book their passage to the semi-finals. But it’s not all sadness.
“Great season,” Mahomes posted to X.com, formerly Twitter, calling for the basketball team to keep their heads up, regroup and go again.
