Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have struggled offensively through five weeks.

The Kansas City Chiefs head into their matchup with the Detroit Lions on Sunday needing a turnaround after a rough stretch. They suffered their third loss of the season last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars; inconsistency and sloppy offensive play again cost them in key moments.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have struggled offensively through five weeks.
The AFC giants have looked far from their usual selves, and reports suggest the front office has been exploring ways to add more firepower, particularly on offense. Speculation linked former Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill with a potential return before his season-ending injury. More recently, the team has been connected to New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara as a possible target.

On Tuesday, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox released his NFL trade block big board for Week 6, listing Kamara at No. 8 with the Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers among potential suitors.

However, any hopes of a deal quickly faded in the wake of an update from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who revealed Kamara informed Saints general manager Mickey Loomis that he wants to remain in New Orleans.

“My understanding is that Alvin Kamara has been the subject of trade calls,” Rapoport said. “Mickey Loomis went to Kamara and asked, do you want to be here or do you want to be traded? Kamara responded that he wanted to stay in New Orleans, so I do not expect him to be traded.”

Kamara’s ability as both a runner and pass-catcher makes him an ideal fit for Kansas City’s system. But the latest news is a blow for the Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who hasn’t received consistent help this year. Mahomes threw for 318 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 60 yards and another score in the loss to Jacksonville.

With Kamara off the table, the Chiefs will have to rely on their current backfield of Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt to keep the offense balanced. As they prepare to face a high-scoring Detroit team, Kansas City hopes to find its spark quickly to stay competitive in the AFC race.
