Man City era has to end says Guardiola after fourth consecutive loss

Pep Guardiola says Man City’s period of dominance “will come to an end” at some point after his side were beaten for the fourth game in a row.

City suffered a fourth consecutive loss for the first time since Guardiola came into the job, falling 2-1 to Brighton after a late comeback at the AmEx.

Erling Haaland had opened the scoring in the first half but late goals from substitutes Joao Pedro and Matt O’Riley handed Brighton victory.

“It is what the people want, for us to be finished,” he said. “We have won a lot, it happened.

“The end is going to come, it is not eternal. In the next 55 years, City is not going to win every season of the Premier League, it is not going to happen.

“In this business you have to win games and now we are not winning games, especially in the Premier League right now. It will help us to be more focused. What is going to happen will happen.”

Asked for his thoughts on losing four in a row for the first time in his career, Guardiola shrugged, saying there is a first time for everything.

“There is always a first time in your lifetime, but we lost two Premier League games. That is the point. We will have to change to get back to winning but hopefully when [injured] players come back, and I do not have any doubts that they will be back, we will do our best.

But he downplayed the significance of the losing run, however, adding: “Normally people lose games. The situation is that. This is my challenge, our challenge, and I like to face it. I will not step back at all, I more than ever want to do it, and we will try again.”
