As the world continues to reel from the news that Hollywood couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have parted ways, a source close to the singer has revealed that JLo’s house hunting journey actually began back in April.

55-year-old Jennifer officially filed for divorce from her 52-year-old husband on Tuesday August 20, the day that would’ve marked their second wedding anniversary. However according to documents filed with the Los Angeles County Superior Court, she lists April 26, 2024 as the couple’s date of separation – around the same sort of time that she began to look for a new home, the source told PEOPLE.

Earlier this year the couple had begun to try and sell their multi-million dollar mansion off market, in order to protect their identity and that of potential buyers, a common practice used in high-end real-estate deals. Yet after failing to find a buyer privately, the couple publicly listed the $68million property in July, just one year after they had purchased it.

According to sources, Jen decided to file for divorce because she was “done waiting” and that despite trying “really hard to make things work” it sadly wasn’t the case, leaving the star utterly “heartbroken” at the dissolution of her marriage.

The couple, who both have children from previous relationships, had been living together as a blended family since tying the knot in 2022, and even despite the split, “The kids are a top priority, as they always have been,” the insider added.

Following the separation, Ben reportedly purchased a new house for himself last month, with the Hollywood star shelling out $20.5million on a Los Angeles pad the very same day that JLo turned 55.

Ben and Jennifer first met and fell in love back in 2022 and after a whirlwind romance decided to get engaged within a matter of months, however things soon fizzled out and the couple parted ways in 2003. Fast forward to 2021 and the couple once again rekindled their romance after almost two decades apart, where the chemistry was once again palpable.

Deciding to give their relationship another go, Bennifer, as they were affectionately known by fans, soon began dating, and by July 17,2022 had tied the knot in Vegas. The couple later held a second more formal wedding with their loved ones on August 20, 2022.
