Jennifer Garner Wants Her Kids to Experience ‘Little Trauma’ Through Ben Affleck and J.Lo Divorce, Source Says
Jennifer Garner wants to protect her kids as Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez move forward with their divorce. Here’s what a source claimed.
Jennifer Lopez officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on Aug. 20, 2024, proving the media was right about their inevitable split. The couple tied the knot in 2022 and called it quits just two years later. Unfortunately, it’s not just Lopez and Affleck involved. Lopez has 16-year-old twins, while Affleck has three kids with ex-wife Jennifer Garner. Here’s what a source said about Garner wanting the kids to experience minimal “trauma” over the divorce.
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck married in 2005 and separated 10 years later. They officially divorced in 2018 but vowed to stay friends to co-parent effectively. Unfortunately, the couple had to explain their separation to their three kids.
Now, Garner and Affleck’s kids, Violet, 18; Fin, 15; and Samuel, 12, have to go through divorce again, as do Lopez’ twins, Max and Emme Muñiz, 16. Lopez and Affleck’s kids became close when the couple married, with Fin and Emme forming a particularly close bond. Violet and Lopez are also very close, as they were spotted spending the day together in the Hamptons over the 2024 summer.
While Lopez and Affleck have to work through the complicated parts of their divorce, all parties involved want to ensure the kids are OK. A source told Life & Style that Garner wants the children to get through the separation with “little trauma.”
“Jen [Garner] can be very easy on Ben, but privately, even she admits he’s taken up a lot of her time – especially because they’ve had so much parenting to deal with,” the source explained. “Helping the kids get through another divorce with as little trauma as possible has been Jen’s priority.”
Garner has been very present in Affleck’s life through his issues with Lopez in 2024. “She’ll never give up on him, or else she’d feel like she was letting their kids down,” the source added.
So, what do Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s kids think of their parents’ divorce? A source told Page Six that everyone is “ready to move on.”
“His kids are taking it fine, as are hers,” a source said. “Everybody is ready to move on.”
Another source told the publication that Lopez is most upset about how the divorce might affect all five kids. “She knew they were going to blend families,” the insider explained. “She has not fully accepted it is over.”
Yet another source told Closer Weekly that the kids knew Lopez and Affleck would divorce once Affleck bought his new $20 million Los Angeles mansion. However, Affleck wants Max and Emme always to feel welcome.
“The biggest casualty of their breakup are the kids, of course,” the source explained. “Ben’s children love Jennifer, and her kids adore Ben. The new home is bittersweet because the kids see it as an end of their blended family. All the kids have bonded.”
Jennifer Garner talked about moving on from her divorce with the kids
Jennifer Garner once discussed how difficult it was to move forward from her divorce from Ben Affleck with three kids involved. She didn’t want the media circus surrounding the end of their relationship to affect her family.
“Ben says, ‘Oh, you just don’t care,’ and I say, ‘No, it’s the opposite.’ It hurts me so much, and I care so much,” she told Vanity Fair in 2016. “I cannot be driven by the optics of this; I cannot let anger or hurt be my engine. I need to move with the big picture always on my mind, and the kids first and foremost.”
