“Fans React with Mixed Emotions as Patrick Mahomes Teasingly Mocks Travis Kelce for Age, Praises New WR Marquise Brown: ‘We Still Have a Young Team… Except for Trav'”
Patrick Mahomes couldn’t resist the chance to mock good friend Travis Kelce when discussing the age of the Kansas City Chiefs locker room.
Mahomes and Kelce won their third Super Bowl together last season, with the pair inspiring Kansas City’s overtime win against the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.
As two of the Chiefs’ most important players they have picked up three championships in five years, the last two of which have come in consecutive seasons
Now Mahomes has his sights set on next season, where the Super Bowl champions will aim to become the first team in NFL history to pull off a ‘three-peat’.
And while insisting that they are still a young team in the large part, the Chiefs quarterback aimed a playful dig at Kelce, 34, for being one of the elder statesmen of the locker room
We’re trying to build that here and we believe that we’ve started it and we want to continue it,’ Mahomes said. ‘We still have a young team… other than Trav.’
Kelce is the second oldest player on the Kansas City roster behind fellow 34-year-old James Winchester, who was born two months earlier.
The legendary tight end remains very much at the top of his game, nevertheless, after producing vital performances on another Chiefs postseason run to the Super Bowl.
Next season Kelce and Mahomes will be playing alongside a new wide receiver in Marquise Brown, who signed a one-year contract last week after leaving the Arizona Cardinals.
At the weekend’s 101 Awards in Missouri, Mahomes said he had ‘been impressed by how hungry [Brown] has been’ already and that ‘you can tell he wants to win.’
‘Obviously, he wants to do good and everybody wants to do good. But you can tell he wants to be a part of something that’s special, part of greatness.’
He then added after mocking Kelce: ‘If we can continue to build this with a lot of people who are hungry and wanna win, we can keep this thing going.’
