The Kansas City Chiefs failed to complete the first three-peat in NFL history. This offseason, they could aggressively pursue a superstar to get the offense back on track.

Last season was the first time in Patrick Mahomes time as a starter that he failed to eclipse 4,000 passing yards. He also had just 26 passing touchdowns, tying a low since he took over for Alex Smith. The Chiefs could look to add an explosive pass catcher to help the offense, and one of the best players in the league just became available. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the New York Jets are taking calls on Davante Adams. TWSN’s Marissa Myers predicted the Chiefs would trade for Adams.

While the Chiefs do still have Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy, they’re still both young receivers that are finding their way through the NFL,” wrote Myers. “With coming off a Super Bowl loss like the Chiefs did, having a veteran still in the locker room outside of Travis Kelce at tight end would be beneficial. Adams would provide Rice the ability to not be rushed back from injury, and give the Chiefs an on-and off-field presence to mentor both receivers. This factor would greatly help Patrick Mahomes, who will be looking to have more stable wide receiver help, something he hasn’t had since the team traded Tyreek Hill.”

Rapoport also noted the Jets would likely release Adams if they cannot strike a trade. Theoretically, the Chiefs could wait for that to happen, but then they run the risk of Adams following Aaron Rodgers in free agency. A trade would ensure Adams is wearing a Chiefs jersey next fall. Adams spent over two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders so the Chiefs are no strangers to his ability.

Adams has been one of the best players in the NFL for quite some time now. He is a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro. Last season he had 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns despite shaky quarterback play. He has led the league in receiving touchdowns twice in his career and would be a great asset to the Chiefs.

Adams signed a five-year, $140 million deal in 2022. The Chiefs would have to get creative with the salary cap in order to pull off a, but perhaps the Jets would take on some of his cap hit if the Chiefs offer more capital.
