Breaking News : Patrick Mahomes Facing Chiefs Decision After Injury Update…

The goal for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs is for him to be ready for the start of the 2026 season. The two-time All-Pro quarterback’s campaign came to an abrupt end in Week 15 after Mahomes suffered what turned out to be a season-ending injury against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Mahomes tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee, which required surgery. The 30-year-old ended his season with 315-of-502 completed passes for 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Since going under the knife on Dec. 15, Mahomes has been working hard in his rehab with the objective of returning for Week 1 of the 2026 season.

On Monday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid shared some news on Mahomes’ road to recovery. The three-time Super Bowl-winning coach said that Mahomes is making good progress.

“First of all, he’s doing great for just being three weeks out or so,” Reid said, via NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk. “He’ll go ahead and most likely stay up here for the majority of the time rehabbing. He and Julie (Frymyer), she’s the person who does all that RPT (rehab physical therapy), and so he has a lot of trust in her, and he’s been just in there grinding.

“I think they’ll just continue till we get started again. Not that he won’t take a break here or there, but right now, he’s in that early process where you’ve got to really hit it hard. And, you know, it’s not necessarily a fun thing to do every day. The important thing is that you show up, and that you keep coming, coming back for more, and he’s been doing that.”

Based on Reid’s comments, Mahomes will be required to spend the majority of his offseason in the team’s practice facility in Kansas City, where he will be working with Chiefs athletic trainer Julie Frymyer. This means that the six-time Pro Bowler may need to deviate from his usual offseason plans.

Mahomes is now facing a crucial decision on whether he will remain in Kansas City to rehab or head home to Texas, which is where he usually spends his offseasons.

Mahomes owns a $3.37 million mansion in Westlake, Texas, which is a small town in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Mahomes, together with his wife, Brittany Mahomes, and their three kids typically head home after the NFL season. This offseason could be very different for the entire family if the Chiefs QB decides to remain in Kansas City for his rehab.
